TACOMA FUJI RECORDS
Emily Scorpion T-shirt designed by Jerry UKAI

MANLARS is an instrumental group formed in 1992. Its original members were Hino (alto saxophone), Nakajima (drums), Suda (bass), Gokita (trumpet), Ukai (keyboards), and Yoshida (trombone). Arima (guitar) occasionally joined the band. The band didn't have a name during its active career, but finally decided on the name "Manlars" after a hiatus. "Emily Scorpion" was MANLARS' first ballad with Japanese vocals, written in Hino's Shimokitazawa apartment toward the end of the band's activities. The members gathered in Hino's room, drinking beer in the middle of the day and starting a jam session while tipsy. Ukai's phrase inspired the other members to write the lyrics, with Gokita providing the vocals. By this time, all the members had already entered the workforce, and there was almost no chance of them practicing as enthusiastically as they did in their student days or performing live, so this song, written in the band's later years, was never performed in public. However, in the late '90s, when Hino performed a solo concert at Ebisu Katchatora, which later became legendary, he made a surprise rendition of "Emily Scorpion" on guitar and vocals. It was a fantastic performance, but unfortunately, it was the first and last time that Emily Scorpion was performed in public. MANLARS was effectively disbanded, and even when the members occasionally got together, Emily Scorpion was never mentioned. Therefore, this T-shirt is a phantom work.
